Reston,
VA - A Metro ride spurred one avid networker to quit
his job in the mortgage business and start a technology
company to build a more powerful business card.
"I looked at the Metro card in
one hand and business cards in the other and said, "Hey,
why can't I put the magnetic stripe from one onto the
other?" recalls Cliff Krieg.
Krieg's idea was to use a magnetic stripe
to store information on a business card. The stripe would
have the capacity for about 321 characters or a link
to a Web site with a sales pitch.
At the end of February, Krieg will leave
his job as a loan officer at Wells Fargo to start Eye
Q Development in Reston and turn his idea into a business.
He has filed applications for eight patents related to
the idea but will rely on other companies' proprietary
technology to make it viable.
Krieg has shown his idea to several
angel investors but expects to fund the venture himself.
